China Glaze Stone Cold

I wanted to try out the China Glaze Stone Cold from my American swap, but I wasn't ready to take off the amazing orange Riveting, so here they are together.

I used hole reinforcers to tape off the bottoms of my nails, and painted one coat of Stone Cold over the tips.

Stone Cold is a very unusual dark grey matte polish. It goes on really well, quite thick, and very smooth, and dries very quickly to a very matte finish. It's full of paler shimmery bits which I bet would look really good with a shiny topcoat too.

This really reminds me of stone - the different greys in there look very slatey, and the finish is pure granite. It's an odd feel - I've been touching my nails to my lips all afternoon, it feels a bit like a slate blackboard or something.

I like the combination with the orange - the shine contrasted with the matte, the bright firey colour contrasted with the dull stone. It reminds me of a volcano, with lava flowing next to rock or pumice or something.
The only downside is that this is not wearing well on the tips. Still, I suppose that's fairly standard for a matte, and I don't often wear the same colour two days running anyway, so it's not the end of the world.

  1. Pretty! I know what you mean about odd textured polishes & touching them, but I don't think I'd be able to resist putting a shiny top coat on.

    1. I think if I was wearing this for another day I would do a shiny topcoat. But it's off now - going to try something else for tomorrow.
