Barry M Gelly Polishes

After yesterday's post about how badly Barry M had done with the Web Effect polish, I thought I needed something a bit more positive! Barry M's latest new thing is the 'Hi Shine Gelly' range. There are 9 colours in all, but so far I've only managed to find 4. These are designed to be high gloss, one-coat polishes, similar to the kind of gel nails that need to be cured under lamps.

This is one coat (yes, really!) of Blackberry, with no topcoat.

Application was lovely and smooth, the pigment is really intense, and the polish dries well.

Because I also have one of the new Barry M Glitters, I decided to add a coat of that too, just to see what it was like. This is one coat of Pink Sapphire over Blackberry.

Pink Sapphire looks very similar in the bottle to the lovely Once Upon a Time, but where that is just bar glitter, this is actually made up of tiny fuschia microglitter, larger fuschia hexagonal pieces, and holo bar glitter as well. It's very VERY shiny!

Moving on, this is one coat of Blue Plum, again, with no topcoat. This is a very dark blue, and coverage was pretty even. If I had been wearing this for longer, I might have added a second coat, as there were one or two areas that looked a little patchy.

It's still very shiny though, I do like this!

Next up is Watermelon, a deep green colour. Again, this is one coat, and no topcoat.

This is my least favourite of the colours so far, but that's just because I'm not currently a huge fan of green. I may be more in the mood for it once winter comes along.

Again, because I was in the mood for playing with glitter, I added a coat of this gorgeous Kleancolor glitter I got in my last fab USA swap. This is Aurora, which is stacks of different pinky-translucent-holo glitters in a clear to pink base. There are star shapes and everything! In the bottle it looks pink, but it's pretty clear, and there is a definite green tinge to some of the glitter, and I think these two work really well together!

Last of the bunch today is Blood Orange. This one is my favourite, but that's hardly surprising as I do love reds. This is definitely red, rather than orange. It's a really vibrant, pigmented, bright red. This is actually two coats this time - one would have been plenty, but I managed to dent a couple of nails, and wanted to even them out.

By the way, I had to cut my nails as I managed to break not one, but THREE last night. I'm not keen on the rounded shape, my fingers feel quite childlike. I miss my squarer tips! Oh well, they'll grow back.

Isn't it shiny?

So, I conclude that these Gelly polishes are NICE! I will be trying to get my hands on all the others as soon as I can.

Edited to add: you really do need to use a good basecoat with these, as the colours do stain a bit. Not so much on the nail, but on the cuticles if you did get some on there by accident. I found this especially noticeable with the blue and green colours.  Also - because I was wearing the red for work, I added topcoat - and got massive shrinkage at the tips, the worst I think I've ever seen! So don't bother with the topcoat!

  1. These lacquers are amaze-balls! They look so juicy. I love juicy. =)

And I'm with you 100% on Watermelon. It doesn't look like much out of the bottle but boy does it make that baby pink glitter fest shine!

    1. Juicy is just the word, isn't it?

I wasn't expecting the green to go so well with the pink glitter, but they're made for each other!

  4. I've been looking out for these, but they haven't hit my local shops yet. Superdrug? Or Boots?

  5. *now wearing Blackberry*

I made myself put the new glitters back -- they are indeed amazeballs! But I am rationing myself. I was surprised you didn't go for Tangerine?

    Thanks for the recommendation!

    1. Tangerine? Do you mean Satsuma? I do have Tangerine, but it's an old favourite, not a Gelly.

Yay Blackberry! You prob need Rose Quartz glitter to go over the top though. I expect.

  6. Haha yes I probably mean Satsuma! Not that I have ever known the difference.

  7. Did you find the Blood Orange colour to take longer to dry than the other colours? My nails take ages to dry and dent easily in this Gelly polish.

    1. To be honest, I can't remember now, but I don't think it took any longer than other polishes. But then it is thicker, so it's entirely possible it does take longer to dry.
