OPI - The Man with the Golden Gun - Gold Leaf Topcoat

Part of OPI's recent Skyfall collection was the limited edition gold leaf topcoat, The Man with the Golden Gun. When I first saw swatches online, I wasn't tempted, but when I saw this in the flesh in my local nail varnish shop, I had to get it. Online this sells for between £20-£35. I found it for £19.99 which I think was reasonable enough for a special treat.

The Man with the Golden Gun comes in its own presentation box, which is nice and sturdy. I will probably end up using the box for something (nail varnish rings or something, I expect). It is a clear base, with gold leaf flakes suspended in it. They can sink to the bottom after a while, and shaking doesn't move them about much, so I recommend holding the bottle upside down for a few minutes before using.

This is what it looks like over Essie Skirting the Issue:

and over China Glaze Escaping Reality:

I like how this looks - elegantly shiny without being blingy and overly glittery. And I really like how the flakes are suspended in the clear base, so not lying entirely flat on the nail.It dries very smooth - no roughness or sticky out pieces. Maybe pink isn't the best base for it; I want to try it over dark colours next, perhaps a dark blue or green...

  1. Very pretty! I don't tend to wear gold stuff that much so can't really justify it haha. Far more of a silver person x

  2. I absolutely love this polish. Sadly I paid top dollar for it. £19.99 is pretty decent!

    1. Yes, I wasn't going to get it originally, but I thought that was a bit of a bargain to be honest. And it's pretty!

  3. It looks really good with the Essie, makes it look very Christmassy!

  4. I'm with you, I totally want to layer this over green! I'm thinking Nars Zulu.

I got the $OPI version; the flakes a micro, very subtle. But I want to combine it with Zoya Guilty (which is coming in the mail, scored it yesterday with a flash promo =).

    1. I'm thinking Barry M Racing Green for me.

I don't think I could justify two gold leafs! I'm not sure how much I'll even wear this one to be honest. I think it'll be an occassional thing.

  5. It's lovely, more subtle than you'd expect for Real Gold On Your Nails OMG! I'm another vote for the green base, pure Christmas.

    1. Ok, I might try that this week. I'm a bit allergic to Christmas, but I suppose I could do Christmassy nails at some point.

    1. I think you're right. I'll have to do another post over a variety of darker colours!
