OPI Mariah Carey Collection - Liquid Sand - Get Your Number

OPI's recent Mariah Carey collection didn't really appeal to me. The Liquid Sand part of the collection looked interesting, but also didn't look like my kind of thing. Texture seems to be the current big thing in nail polish - there's the Nails Inc Concrete collection, and Barry M doing a new textured collection this spring too. I wasn't going to try these, but I saw a set of the minis on special offer, so I got them to try.

Here are the four minis. Left to right: Can't Let Go (purple), The Impossible (pink), Stay the Night (black and red) and Get Your Number (blue).

Today I have the blue to show you, Get Your Number.

This is two coats of Get Your Number with no base or topcoat. It's a fairly sheer blue jelly with stacks of glitter in various blue and holo shades. Initially it applies normally, but as it dries it becomes very obviously matte. Not just matte, but gritty and rough, a bit like concrete. The glitter is still quite sparkly though.

I don't like this at all! I don't like how it feels on my nails, or how it catches on things. However, if you like this sort of thing, I think it's been done really well - application is smooth, it dries quickly and evenly, and it lasts really well. The glitter is lovely, and shows up well, even matte.

However, I then added topcoat. This needed three coats of Seche Vite to even out the roughness, but oh my, was it worth it!  Look how sparkly and shiny and pretty! I don't have any blue glitters like this.

I included the blurry photo to show you how many colours are in there once it's glossed up.

Like this, I do really like this colour. I like the squishiness of the jelly and the real blue-ness of it, and how mega sparkly it is.

Without topcoat, this really isn't for me. But with topcoat - wow!

  1. At the moment I don't have any plans to buy into the textured trend. It's just not me, and I think I would find the roughness annoying!

This blue looks very good on you but I still prefer the look with the photos with the topcoat.

    1. I know what you mean! I think maybe I'm just too old or untrendy to 'get' it.

The topcoat one looks good to me, but the other one... yeah, too odd.

    1. I like the minis. The brush is more useable for me, and I'd never have paid full price for a full size bottle of these.

  3. I'm with you on the topcoat issue. Gritty polish is too annoying for me, I'd be picking it all day, and this looks stunning with a shiny topcoat.

    1. I'm wondering if I can add topcoat to it... franken it a bit to make it glossier...
