Orange Criss-Cross Glitter Gradient

Today's nails are a bit of an all-in kitchen sink mani! I started with no overall plan in mind, I just added bits and made it up as I went along!

I started with two coats of Barry M Full Throttle. This is a really pretty peachy orange colour, but it's a streaky, awkward formula, which I always forget. Still, it's a good colour.

I then taped off a couple of nails with a grid of striping tape, and sponged a gradient of Full Throttle and Barry M Satsuma.  I decided to add some glitter for good measure, and used China Glaze Electrify, which is packed full of gold and red glitter. I sponged this over the tips, with the odd dab further down the nail.

I loved how the quilted nails looked, but it took a while to do, and was quite fiddly, so I did something different with the other two, and used striping tape, Satsuma and Electrify to add some blocks of colour. The Satsuma looked quite overpowering on its own, so I then added the tiny studs.

I'm so pleased with how these look! And they were a total happy accident, which makes them even better.

Colour Me Crazy! Week 1:Red.

This week the British Nail Bloggers have started a new challenge, based on colours. This is a weekly theme - you can find more details here.

The first week's challenge is RED. I knew I wanted to do something that involved only using red polish, I didn't want to include other colours. I eventually settled on this, another version of the quilted design I tried previously (see here).

This uses Barry M Blood Orange as the glossy base - I used one coat. I then used striping tape to mark off a grid pattern, and added a coat of Zoya Chyna, the textured red glitter from the Pixie Dust collection.

I'm really pleased with how these came out!

I like the contrast between the glossy and the matte, and of the creme and the glitter. I should do quilted nails more often, they're easy to do and pretty effective.

Check out everyone else's red-themed nails here:

Textured Glitter Quilted Nails

I still can't get enough of the Barry M Silks! They're such nice polishes, especially Blossom, the pink one. I also loved yesterday's quilted nails and wanted to do more, so I combined Blossom with another new (to me) Barry M, Princess, from the textured glitter range.

So this is three coats of Blossom, with Princess on the accent nails, applied over a grid of striping tape to give the quilted effect (see more here.)

Princess is a lovely glitter - it's a really pretty pastel pink glitter in a pink base, with a gold edge to it as well. It dries to a sparkly, glittery, textured finish, which I really like.

I think this works really well with the quilted look.  I'm definitely not bored of the quilted pattern yet!

Quilted Nails Skittle

This weekend I had planned to post about the Models Own Hypergels which I bought over a week ago. However, I just can't get them to work! I've tried multiple times now, and am getting frustrated. They just don't dry on me! I was going to try again tonight but then I couldn't be bothered, and instead wanted to use my very pretty and lovely Barry M Silk polishes.

I decided to try a quilted nails look, in a skittle!  I paired each Silk up with a similar coloured creme, so here we have Blossom, with Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream, Heather with Rimmel Pro Ultra Violet, Meadow with China Glaze Keep Calm, Paint On, and Mist with Blueberry Ice Cream.

This is how I did it.  Lots of striping tape and a steady hand. I've seen this idea on a few blogs recently, but the best tutorial I've seen is by The PolishAholic.

And these are the results! I'm SO chuffed with these! I'm really pleased with how they came out. I like the contrast between the matte Silk underneath and the glossy creme, and I like the raised pattern.

I'm really excited about this design! I'm thinking there are so many ways it could work - highly contrasting colours like black and red, or black and white, or the same colour but matte & shiny, or with a really shiny holo polish underneath, or with a gradient underneath...

 What do you think?
