This is Revlon's Facets of Fuschia, touted on a lot of the internet as a dupe for Deborah Lippmann's Bad Romance, a black jelly with stacks of bright fuschia glitter in various sizes. I didn't buy the Lippmann because it was £16, and this Revlon was under a fiver.
This is a thin black jelly with fuschia glitter in small and large sizes. The first time I wore this, I wore it on its own and it took at least three layers to be anywhere near opaque. This time I layered it over a black base (my standard Rimmel Black Out) and then added two layers of Facets of Fuschia. Application was ok; the Revlon brush is very thin though, so it needed quite a lot of brush strokes per nail. The finish felt very rough too, so I needed three layers of Seche Vite before it felt smooth enough to not drive me up the wall.
I feel a bit underwhelmed by this. I love the concept, but it just doesn't blow me away the way I want it to. It looks amazing in the bottle, but I think it just looks nice on the nails. I wish it looked more purple or more glittery.
I'm also annoyed with my nail shape. I had been experimenting with a squarer nail shape over the last month, and I was taking ages to get used to it. Having corners felt really odd, and when I tapped things with my fingerips it felt really weird! I quite liked how it looked, but last night they needed shortening anyway, and I ended up cutting them really short (shorter than I wanted) and back to the round shape I was used to. Now I've done it, I hate how it looks. They look very childish to me now. So maybe I'll grow them back squarer. What do you reckon?
hmmm...after seeing this, I think I'd rather fork out for the Lippman!
ReplyDeleteYep, me too! I think this looks lovely in the bottle, but it just doesn't work for me.
DeleteI think it looks pretty :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's pretty, it just doesn't blow me away with amazingness, the way that swatches of the DL Bad Romance do.
Deleteyeah, I was hoping that it would 'pop' a bit more!
ReplyDeleteMe too. Oh well, you live and learn.
DeleteI keep thinking about giving it another go, but then I get distracted by something far glitterier (i.e. almost everything in my stash drawer) and forget again. The fact I need to base it with something else if part of the problem. (Bear in mind right now I have Leighton Denny Liquid Silver, topped with Hidden Treasure, and because that didn't work OPI Gone Gonzo on top of that. I am full of excuses)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's just not a winner, is it?
DeleteI'm wearing this at the moment and I really like it. Mine looks a lot more purpley than yours though! Not sure why. I used a coat of black, 2 of FoF and the 2 coats of top coat :)
ReplyDeleteHm, that's interesting. I wonder if I should try this over a purple base? I was disappointed that this wasn't more purpley overall.
DeleteHi Elanor
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post review! Followed your blog.
Agree, it looks so eye-popping when inside the bottle but seems very light application when applied to your nails. Not that great if you'll have to end up applying 2 to 3 coats for it to show.
The Lippman sounds pricey. I'll look it up.

Thanks. Even at two or three coats, I still find it disappointing to be honest. I have the Lippmann too now though, I'm just waiting for more autumnal weather to wear and blog it.
