Barry M Ridley Road - Textured Polish

Textured polishes are all the range right now - every company seems to have some textured colours out now. I didn't like the OPI liquid sands at all, but I still couldn't resist trying out the new Barry M textures. There are 4 in this range, all pretty spring pastel shades. I chose Ridley Road, the minty green one.

This is two coats, with no topcoat. The texture when you apply this is weird - sort of thin and watery, but full of gritty bits. It reminded me of milk with granulated sugar in it. It dries quickly and gives this textured effect, which reminds me of masonry paint.

This isn't as gritty or rough as the OPI liquid sands, and as such, I don't dislike it nearly as much. I like this minty colour, I think it's pretty for spring (although it does remind me of correction fluid) but I'm still not convinced by the rough texture. I definitely prefer a nice glossy finish!

What do you think? Will you be trying textured polish? Do you already love it?

  1. I picked these up when they came out and really like them. I was a big fan of the liquid sands! Love them. Something cool about the texture polishes hehe.

    1. I think they're really clever, and obviously work well, and it's good that companies like Barry M are doing really new things... but I'm still just struggling a bit to like the way they feel. I don't HATE them, but I really don't like them very much.

  2. I can't do texture polishes. I know this for a fact because when I HATED OPI's "Morning, Moneypenny"-- which is a magnetic, that dried bumpy & didn't magnetize at all. I took it off fast!

    1. Yeah, I've tried a few now, and while I am a bit impressed that they're all 'WOW DIFFERENT!' I'm also not keen on the way they feel. I touch my nails far too often to be able to cope, haha.

  3. I can't cope with glitters being bumpy, so I'd end up putting a millions coats of seche on top, which kind of defeats the object. I don't know, nails are meant to be smooth and shiny in my world, I don't cope well with change!

    1. I'm glad I'm not alone in this! I do like the furry nails, and I like studs and stones, but the gritty stuff isn't doing it for me.

  4. Ahh I disagree - I bought the blue and green at the weekend and was surprised to find I loved the feel of them! (I've done a review of them too on my blog!)

    1. I'll go and have a look now! I'm glad people do like them - it's nice how many different things are available nowadays and 'doing your nails' doesn't just mean red or pink shiny polish like it did when I was younger. I think I'm just getting a bit old for some of the edgier stuff!
