I was looking at my collection and trying to decide what to wear, and thought I hadn't worn my Models Own Mirrorball glitters in ages! So I decided to go for it. Last time, I wore them over their corresponding colours, but today I decided to wear them over white.
I used two coats of Essie Blanc, and then added the Models Own glitters as a skittle. I've used Boogie Nights (the purple one) on my thumb and little finger, Freak Out (the blue one) on my index and ring fingers, and Hot Stuff (the pink one) on my middle finger. And I remembered why I haven't worn these since I swatched them last time - they STINK! The smell is awful. So, so bad.
Anyway, the glitters are pretty. This isn't really two coats of the Mirrorballs, as it's not that kind of polish. It's more like two sets of dabbings of the Mirrorballs, pushing the glitter around a bit to get it more or less even. As you can see, they are mega sparkly, and full of different shapes and colours of glitter and mylar flakes. They look great, I think! However, they smell bad and they take ages to dry, so I'm not hugely impressed. I do like how they look over white though.
The pink one is the densest in coverage, as it has more of the tiny glitter. The blue and purple ones have a bit more variety in colour too - Boogie Nights has pinks and purples, and a few blue pieces, Freak Out has turquoises and blues, plus some magenta micro glitter. They're pretty, but I'm not sure the smell and awkward application is worth it.
I had it in blue but had to get rid. I just found them awful to apply. and even worse than normal to remove. I try to like models own, but because of the smell I just end up hating them
ReplyDeleteI found these came off really easily, because they never really dried in the first place. To be honest, they weren't on very long at all. The Models Own crèmes are ok, but yes, these glitters are just too stinky for me.
Deletei got the scented one, in banana, in the hopes that i would be able to smell something else, nope, still stank!
DeleteI have freak out, and I love it over a dark blue base, But I hate having to dab and place the glitter instead of just being able to apply it like normal. I have found that a coat of seche vite definitely helps with drying time though, as I get bored waiting and end up ruining it :( I also have Beach Party from the Hed Kandi collection, but the colour is the only thing I like about it. Too thin and it's streaky and you need about 4 coats, too thick and it bubbles and looks about the same height as the eiffel tower on the nails, and then when you think you've got it right, it just doesn't dry.. I think I've used it successfully once :(
ReplyDeleteAnyway, another great post :) xx
Haha, your Eiffel tower comment made me laugh!
DeleteI think overall, the MO glitters are so disappointing. They look amazing in the bottles but they're not particularly pleasant to use. When you think what some other brands can manage, it's really frustrating.
Yes I agree, not just for their credibility, but the price! I just hope that all their polishes aren't as hard to apply as Beach Party was, as I know there are many polishes I'm dying to try. I think I'll let them get away with the glitter, as they do look great on the nails.. Sometimes a girl gotta do what a girl gotta do! Haha xx
DeleteI love the reflections of you on the caps in the first pic. :)
ReplyDeleteThe smell is why I don't wear mine very often either. I like Models Own generally (Indian Ocean is one of my all time favourite colours), but these are possibly the smelliest polishes I've ever come across. It's how the smell carries on stinking even after a coat of seche vite that I don't understand.
Crikey, for an awful moment I thought you could see ME in there! Thankfully just my arm and camera, phew.
DeleteThe smell is just too awful. Argh.
Such a shame about the application/smell because the end result is so pretty! x
ReplyDeleteThanks, it really is, isn't it? I'm going to try making some jewellery, see if that's better.
DeleteI didn't find these too bad with the application and drying time. It was Models Own Snowflakes that I had an issue with. It didn't actually dry at all and I ended up with a sludgey mess on my nails/
