Polish Party July

Today's post is making me feel proud and furious at the same time!  This month's Polish Party theme is a really good one, and I was really looking forward to it. The theme is to recreate the very first nail art you did!

I have no idea what the very first nail art I did was, but I can see the very first nail art which I posted on this blog. You can read the original post from back in October 2011 here. It was my very first attempt at using tape for a nail design, and I had intended to do rays on all my nails. However, I found it so fiddly (I hadn't heard of striping tape!) that I only did one nail, and then did basic chevrons on the others.

Here's what it looked like back then!

Now that I know about striping tape, I did what I had intended to do on every nail instead of just the accent. I used the same polishes, Models Own Gold Rush and Barry M Raspberry.  Just as I was feeling really pleased with myself, I managed to make a huge smeary dent on my ring finger!

I didn't even notice the smear while I was taking the photos! I considered taking it off and starting again, but by this point I was a bit fed up of striping tape and wanted to go to bed!

Where I think I have improved:
  • application of the actual polish
  • clean-up
  • use of tape
  • nail shape (I hate how my old nails look! To me they look so childish and odd!)
  • hand pose
  • photography (haha at my old one with my living room in the background, and rubbish lighting!)
 Where I have NOT improved:
  • not being a complete clumsy idiot! Ha! People who know me know that I spend most of my time walking into corners of desks, getting sleeves stuck on door handles, getting my pony tail caught in car doors and dropping food down the front of a clean top. At the ripe old age of nearly 42, I suppose this will never change!

  1. Hehe this look amazing! I guess we all make mistakes sometimes - nice placement of your logo ;-)

There certainly has been a big different in the years. It is interesting to look back and see how much we've come on since over first posts! :-)

    1. Thank you!

I wasn't going to post at all, but then I thought I might as well.

It really is interesting to see isn't it? I hadn't realised I'd been blogging that long either!

  2. It's amazing to see how different the colours look in different lighting (and I guess slightly less Barry M in the application) Still love the shape of the rays.

  3. You've improved so much! I love the colour combination! I don't think I would of had the patience to use striping tape on all of my nails! It's a shame you smudged it, but you're not the only one! - I always manage to smudge my designs when I add a topcoat! :)

    1. Thank you!

I quite like using lots of striping tape actually. I cut them all first and line them up along the edge of my desk, then I quite enjoy the repetitiveness of putting all the bits on my nails.
